This prestigious cycling event is starting this year in Belfast on Friday 9th May. The race was first held in 1909 and this will be the 97th event. For the actuaries reading this I will just clarify that the event was suspended during the two world wars.

It is held over a 3 week period and the first stages are held outside of Italy every other year  and this year it is Northern Ireland’s turn to play host.

The first stage on Friday 9th May is a 27.1 km time trial and begins from the slipways at the Titanic Belfast before wending its way around the town and finishing at the City Hall.

The second stage on Saturday 10th is a much more challenging 218km leg which again starts at the Titanic Belfast before heading North and the Causeway coast and heading back.

The third leg is a mere 187km starting in Armagh and finishing in Dublin. The cyclists then fly back to Italy and the race resumes on the 13th May.

This is a great opportunity to see over 200 professional cyclists racing through the towns and countryside at frightingly quick speeds. So if you are in Belfast over the weekend it will be a great event to watch and to enjoy Irish hospitality at its best.

In our Belfast office the coverage will be streamed through the video conference facility from 12.30pm onwards for staff to wander in and out and see the action and how close it is to the office!

Let us all hope for decent weather.
