Job Overview

We have an excellent opportunity for an experienced Client Management Consultant to join our sister organisation Dalriada Trustees.  The roles will predominantly be Dalriada focused but could involve supporting Spence & Partners Limited.

About You

This role will be attractive to experienced pensions professionals who have the ability to deliver excellent trusteeship services for which Dalriada is known, and to support our portfolio of appointments, primarily those made by the Pensions Regulator.  We are looking for self motivated individuals who are eager to work hard and make an impact and who have built an excellent reputation in the industry. With key industry and technical knowledge this individual will have experience of working in a pensions environment preferably with Defined Benefit and Defined Contribution occupational pension schemes and should understand and be able to demonstrate the importance of quality delivery.  We are looking for someone who has experience of or a desire to work on schemes which are outside of the norm, applying their acquired skills to the technical and non
technical issues thrown up by these schemes.The successful candidates should have the capability to work independently and work collaboratively with colleagues across a multi site business, to manage timely and high quality delivery to our clients.

We are an award winning independent trustee firm, and part of an integrated group of privately owned companies that includes Spence & Partners Ltd, Mantle Services Ltd and Mantle Hosting Ltd pension software providers.  Since our inception we have had a particular focus on providing trusteeship services to schemes with complex backgrounds – for example, schemes where Dalriada have been appointed under special powers by the Pensions Regulator, those sponsored by employers in financial distress/engaged in wind-up/PPF assessment and have built a portfolio of over 100 appointments.

We take a hands-on approach to the role of trustee, developing innovative solutions. We operate from offices in Belfast, Glasgow, Bristol, Manchester, Leeds, Birmingham, and London and have clients throughout the UK. We now wish to expand our presence due to our successful Dalriada Better way proposition.

Key Responsibilities

This role will act as a lead client manager on cases where we have been appointed by The Pensions Regulator.  You will manage the needs of a range of stakeholders including managing expectations of The Pensions Regulator, The Dalriada Board, client management team and members.

On a daily basis you will be involved in the following activities: Lead on a case portfolio, ensuring all statutory, regulatory and internal procedures are met.  Be involved in and direct forensic analysis of complex pension and company documentation and accounts, interrogating information to present the factual position. Work closely with and be a point of contact for third parties, for instance, The Pension Regulator, legal advisors and members of the scheme, ensuring deadlines for delivery of the projects are met. Develop intelligence; gather evidence in support of instruction by The Pensions Regulator in order to conduct asset recovery activities on irregular pension schemes. Identify and discuss with your team any issues/problems and agree and complete appropriate actions.  Raise matters within Board governance structures as required and own actions. Drafting/preparation of documents required for statutory processes, preparing minutes of any meetings required.

Key Criteria


  • An experienced pension professional with a solid industry background.
  • Full understanding of pension trusteeship, with significant knowledge of developing/ current pension industry issues.
  • Knowledge of The Pensions Regulator (TPR) guidance with experience of dealing with TPR.
  • Able to demonstrate deep technical understanding of pension legislation, regulations and other relevant legislation, codes of practice, including scheme management and compliance, best practice guides and a thorough knowledge of defined benefit and defined contribution schemes.
  • Excellent project and budget management skills.
  • Evidence of relevant client management responsibility.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and oral, with the ability to articulate technical points into lay terms.

Location: Belfast/Glasgow

The role holder will be required to work across the United Kingdom and will be expected to travel.

Our working hours are 37.5 hours a week with the requirement to work additional hours as and when required and to facilitate travelling.
